Adoremus will be a unique opportunity for the Church to gather and reflect on the centrality of the Eucharist and particularly to explore the place of Eucharistic Adoration.
What is the Eucharistic Congress ? The bishops of England and Wales held a National Eucharistic Congress in Liverpool 7-9 September.
-A Eucharistic Congress is a gathering of Catholics to witness to
the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist and to adore together
His supreme act of love.
-Adoremus is Latin and refers to our call to Adoration.
-The only other Eucharistic Congress was held in England in 1908.
In Order for our children to have a true understanding of Christ in the Eucharist and how this links to services in everyday life, it is important that we work together. Teaching the children who the Eucharist is and give them a real and positive experience of the Blessed Sacrament will help to nurture the Church of the future.
At St Mary Magdalen's Catholic Junior School we will;
- Explicitly teach the children about the Eucharist, Adoration and Benediction
- Provide children with various positive experiences of the Blessed Sacrament
- Link with other schools and parishes in the Diocese to make this a memorable time in the lives of our children.
Throughout the year we will aim to nourish and strengthen pupils' understanding of Christ's presence in the Sacrament through faith formation.
We will:
- Celebrate Acts of Worship including Mass
- Teach lessons
- Teach through assemblies
- Complete displays and artwork.
What is the Blessed Sacrament?
It is Jesus under the appearance of bread and wine once it has been consecrated at Mass. It is not only a Sacrament but also a sacrifice. We call it the Blessed Sacrament, or the Eucharist.
What is the Eucharist?
Eucharist comes from the Greek word 'eukharistia' meaning thanksgiving. The Eucharist makes present Christ's saving sacrifice at Calvary and unites us to Him and to each other in Holy Communion. At the Eucharist, Christians remember Jesus' death and are united with Him through bread and wine. Eucharist is another word for the Mass and Sacrament as well as the Sacred Host.
What is Adoration?
Adoration is the worship of Jesus Christ who is present, Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity, under the appearance of the consecrated host.
Westminster Prayer
Jesus, you are truly present in the Most Holy Eucharist.
Help me feel Your presence every time I visit you.
Give me Your strength when I receive You in Holy Communion.
And, receiving you love, help me take that love to others.
I ask this in Your name.
Amen
