Absence & Medical

Absence Reporting

By law, children are required to attend school.

Everyday a child is absent, the school office must be contacted with an update.

A doctor/hospital letter must be supplied as evidence, to support this absence.

Absence must be reported on the day before 9 am, where possible.

Absence not reported to the school on the day, and where following attempts by the school, to contact the parent/guardian have failed, we have a duty of care to inform our Local Authority and/or the Police.

Absence and punctuality are monitored by The Local Education Authority. If attendance falls below 90%, parents are invited to an informal meeting with the Education Welfare Officer (EWO) to offer advice and support.

Punctuality

Children must be in school between 8.45am and 9am.

Children arriving after 9am, must sign in, using the electronic signing in system, giving a reason for their lateness.

Children arriving after 9.30am, will be recorded as a half day's absence.

Medical Appointments

All appointments should be made outside of the school day, if possible.

A copy of a hospital letter or doctor/dentist appointment, must be provided.

Children must be signed in and out for appointments, for health & safety reasons.

Medicines & Care Plans

Individual Health Care Plans are necessary for children with complex medical conditions, as outlined by their practitioner or hospital consultant.

Dispensing Medicine - if you wish the Welfare Officer to dispense medicine to your child, please complete the attached form and submit via email, or drop it into the office.
